Strengthening Aviation Safety Through Collaboration and Community
Safety is not just a set of rules or a manual on a shelf. For those of us at Global Aerospace, it is a lived experience that requires us to get out of the office and into the hangars.
We have been a part of the Aviation Safety Day tradition since the SM4 program first began in 2010. Our very first event took place at Westchester County Airport at what was then known as Avitat.
Looking back at that milestone, we realized some things that still guide us today. We understood that our message was reaching people, and also how important it is that families are supported after an accident.
A Grassroots Approach to Safety
While we operate on a massive scale as a leading insurer, we know that the heart of the industry is local. So far in 2026, we have sponsored 11 different industry and association safety day events. This represents an investment of nearly $50,000 specifically designated to support associations and the wider business aviation community.
We do this because we believe that safety resources should be accessible to everyone. It does not matter if you are part of a massive corporate flight department or a small local operation. Everyone deserves the same high-level insights and protection.
Learning From the Flight Line
We don’t just send a check to these events. We show up because we want to hear from you.
As an insurance company, we need to understand the real-world challenges that keep you up at night. These conversations help us see perspectives or potential solutions that we might have missed from behind a desk.
The gatherings we support and attend offer multiple specific benefits that keep us coming back:
- Human connection. These events allow pilots and operators to exchange ideas in a way that digital tools simply cannot replicate.
- Actionable tools. Attendees get to see the latest resources and digital safety aids that make daily operations more efficient.
- Shared wisdom. Hearing how other departments handle risk provides a roadmap for improving your own safety culture.
The Strength of 13 Engaged Partners
The SM4 program has grown because we listened to your feedback. When we started, we had only four partners. Today, that group has expanded to 13 active and engaged partners.
This growth is a direct response to your ideas and your focus on what actually matters in the cockpit, the maintenance bay, and beyond. By collaborating with other industry experts, we can direct our resources where they will make the most significant impact on the industry.
A Century of Looking Forward
Global Aerospace has a long and rich history, but our focus remains on the future. We currently insure over 30,000 general aviation aircraft worldwide and lead the way for half of the major aerospace manufacturers and suppliers.
This worldwide reach gives us a unique view of the industry, yet we remain committed to individual pilots and regional associations. Through our business and the SM4 Safety Program, we will continue to invest in the technology, people, and ideas that make aviation safer for everyone.
Global Aerospace has a century of experience and powerful passion for providing aviation insurance solutions that protect industry stakeholders and empower the industry to thrive.

How Compounding Risks Drive Runway Excursions
Runway excursions rarely result from a single factor. More often, they develop when several manageable risks combine into a situation that leaves little margin for error.
The Very Real Danger of Hidden Risk
We’ve all seen the charts. The ones that pop up in every safety briefing, every recurrent training module, every postmortem after a close call. Takeoff and landing eat up the lion’s share of accidents. Loss of control in flight. Weather. Mechanicals. The stats are clean, the bars are colorful and the takeaway is always the same: Pay attention during the critical phases and you’ll keep the shiny side up.
